Two types of shine

There are two types of shine I know.

One is the shine of newness, the other the shine of oldness.

The new shine is unproved in use; I hesitate to pick it up and bring it to task.

The other, the old, has the shine of constant usage, it’s a picture of a master’s care: Love if you will.

With this tool I never hesitate, for I approved it long ago by its use.

One is proven by its use, the other not.

One has the appearance of possibility, the other is proven.

One is sharp in the hand, awkward to feel and to use.

The other handles easily, is soft, and moves smoothly and freely in the wood.
