Woodland folks meet Paul Sellers

I took some time out for a walk, to see the Autumn in its final month. The atmosphere still feels charged with October’s seasons of mist and mellow fruitfulness as I walk (John Keat’s poem of 1820). Sunday is always a good day for a walk after spending time with family and friends indoors, especially when it’s so lovely.

As I turned the corner in the woods I came across one of my favourite spots which is the National Trust’s Woodland School area designated for teaching and training woodland crafts and experiences for a range of people. I heard happy sounds as the gap between me and the voices narrowed and found my friend Resi with friends there making tension rods from mixed saplings to create a geodesic dome for the woodland school area.

Here they are using draw knives and bill hooks for trimming and shaping  the ends of the staves ready for turning the ends in a stave tenoner or rounder. It’s a rewarding occupation to work with wood and very much part of the RWC (Real Woodworking Campaign) ethos to be out there working this way. I’ll keep you posted on progress over the months.
