Penrhyn’s mixed scape by the sea
I took my noontime walk and a walk in the woods on my way home. The daffodils are beginning to fill the fields and woodlands around Penrhyn Castle. Some land has order and structure.
I like this some of the time, but I like the wilder woodlands better. Manicured woodland is quite unpleasant but managed woodland pleases me as long as there are some larger wild areas protecting wildlife parallel to the managed.
I liked this ‘old man’ who stands hidden in the summer and fall. Hacking back the invasion of laurel has opened up the land in time for spring’s growth to establish ground cover in what was bare and barren beneath the flailing branches of Laurel. Soon the results of the labouring Penrhyn garden and woodland staff will produce fruit. I look forward to seeing these results, walking through the woodlands and gardens and enjoying the culture I live in.
