New Legacy New York again!!

There is something about the sun rise and sunshine staring the day that launches you from bed and then the cardinal calling you to action you must respond to. Looking out through the blinds and a golden sun cuts the horizon beyond the tree-lined river in a way that punctuates the reality that dawn brings hope and anticipation that something Big is about to happen.

Two hours from now new students will walk past the pond, over the footbridge and into the New Legacy workshop. Their hopes will run high as they shuffle awkwardly between the benches and we will try to make them as easy as possible. Banter back and forth will be brief at first and soon they will gather around my bench for intro’s. The pressure will ease as they describe their personal hopes and we will do all that we can to make their hopes and dreams happen.

The tools are sharp, the benches set up and we will find a unique way of passing on our skills to them. Saws and sharpening, planes and discussions, chisels and thoughts on using them will digress into anecdotes from time to time but for the next nine days we will be totally immersed in working wood.
