Celebrating Five Years!

Hard to imagine though it is, it’s been 5 years to the day that we posted our first video series on woodworkingmasterclasses.com. Since then we have published 400 video episodes and that does not include YouTube. I won’t prolong this blog post because the video speaks for itself. I would like to thank you all for making it possible. With your help, we have increased from just Joseph and me to a complimentary team of six. It’s this that allows us to keep our research ongoing as well as to come up with new designs that enhance our training for woodworkers around the world. I hope that you truly enjoy this video!

  1. Very enjoyable. I’ve often thought about doing videos but my skill level is not good enough to perform in front of a camera. But, in time you never know. Paul’s comment that you didn’t know what you were doing so you just did it has given me hope. I’m referring to videoing, not woodworking.

  2. I checked my Quicken records and my first NewLeagcy monthly charge of $12:75 hit my credit card on 11/4/2012 ????✅✅. Y’all are awesome. You haven’t stopped being you but like the entrepreneurial spirit here in Texas you figure there’s always a way to do it just a little better. Bill in Kerrville.

  3. By the Joseph words, now I know for sure, I’m one of the first members on your wonderful woodworking master classes. Today I still miss a lot the eventual and poetic background “dong” of the clock on the castle in the middle of Paul explanations. Your first videos were really good and, without doubt, show the knowledge of Joseph about the craft while filming his father.

I often write in your channel about the joy of see a real craftsman working along the projects without cuts, a real woodworking (master classes). You make a superb work teaching the craft. But besides of all of it, I appreciate by the most, the honesty of your presentations, the enthusiasm you transmits and the attitude over the work. All elements together, make your channel the perfect one to become an artisan on wood.

So, I can only say a big THANK YOU!

    All the best,

    –humanic

  4. I would like to congratulate you with this lustrum. You all have done a great job during the first five years.

The moment you announced the start of masterclasses I knew I had to be part of this journey. And I am happy I did. No regrets Whatsoever. I have learned so much and I am still eager to keep learning from you.

You can indeed be very proud of what you have accomplished. I am ready for the next five years.

    Cheers!

  5. Congrats Paul. About three years ago I think I stumbled onto that video (I think it was making dovetails). At that point it was just a one off video on woodworking I had watched. Later on, I wanted to rewatch it because after seeing many other videos I felt some sort of connection to yours and the style. I had a heck of time finding it again because I couldn’t quite recall your name and all I kept thinking about was the Pink Panther movie actor. After quite a few derivative searches I found you again. I’m glad that I did. To me, your style works well. Also, the fact that you had been doing it for 50 years and made a living at it says a lot to me. I don’t want to watch videos or visit discussion boards where folks debate minutia and how many angles can dance on the head of a pin. I want to do woodworking. If something has worked well for you for 50 years, I am sure it will be good enough for me.

Please keep up the good work. Wed pm is my favorite night of the week as a new video becomes available.

  6. I stumbled upon Paul’s work three years ago and it completely changed my approach to wood working as well as gave me a new confidence working as a studio painter. Thanks for such great work, Paul, Joseph, Phil, and everyone else!

  7. Congratulations Paul and team. Thank you very much for all your work , and I wish that these are only the first five.
    All the best.
    Natxo

  8. Congratulations, Paul. Congratulations to all your team too.

It’s been a year and a half that I discovered your work. It’s been a wonderful time for me to learn so many things from you. I look woodworking hand tools and hand technique in other way now.

Thank you very much for all your work.

    Julio.

  9. Congratulations guys, I can’t believe it’s already five years since you started making your wonderful videos.
I want to share with you how I became acquainted with Paul.
At the time I was very into bushcraft, camping and that stuff and I was viewing a lot of YouTube content on the subject, I got really attracted to carving with axe and knife, usually by guys all in olive green head to toe outfit and hundreds of pounds in equipment.
Suddenly one day in my feed I saw a video of a guy in a polo with an axe you can buy in any store in the middle of the woods, my first thought was “this guy has no idea what is doing”, so I clicked play and begun to watch it. Man I can really tell you the precision of those axe blows were amazing up to par with anyone I had seen so far.
So I went to the YouTube channel and began to see the videos. Almost the same day I make my membership at woodworking Masterclasses, I don’t remember now if they were broadcasting the dovetail boxes or the carrying tote.
But I was hooked, I made a table for the kitchen then my workbench all in my living room with eBay tools. After a while I became unemployed and took the course at Penrhyn Castle, I was in a very bad state of mind at the time with no job and family issues. But I really remember Paul’s words to me: ” Mateo, you have great hands and great ability you can do whatever you like, but you have to pace yourself you are like an earthquake on the workshop, you cannot work like that”.
I took the advice and although I have a job now, every couple of evenings I spend a few hours in the shop and I’m selling quite a few pieces of furniture.
So my last words here are THANK YOU VERY MUCH!!!
    Best regards,
    Mateo

  10. First, Thank You.
I did not sign up when I first found your site. I was happy going through all of the free videos that you have on tools and techniques. I finally decided to subscribe and I am so glad I did. My math tells me that you on average have a new free video every other week.
400 videos in 5 years, less the 260 Wednesday videos leaves 140 other videos over 5 years or 28 per year.

    THANK YOU again.

I am really looking forward to the new workbench video. I am putting off building a workbench until I see it.

Do you have any thoughts on the Moravian workbench design?

  11. Hi Paul and Joseph,

Thank you so much for going on this journey. The money I spend on Masterclasses is the best woodworking money I spend. I feel good knowing your team has on going support. I haven’t built many of the projects, but I’ve gained so much skill and confidence from your videos that I believe we should all continue our support to keep this fantastic program growing. I don’t really have words to express the positive impact you’ve had on my life and family. I just want to say thank you and I loved this video as much as any I’ve watched.

    Take Care,
Chris from Florida ( part of the America contingent 😉 )

  12. Thank you for being the outstanding people that you are, Seller’s family and company. A true blessing.

  13. Thank you Mr. Sellers and team, for being there for us people seeking wisdom and knowledge, and for providing valuable insights that experienced craftsmen tend to skip without explaining for various reasons.

My only regret is that I hadn’t stumbled upon your Youtube channel and website a few years earlier. For some months now, every Wednesday evening I rush like a child to my PC to watch your next episode, and not a single time was I disappointed.

Congratulations, and keep up the excellent work!

  14. I had to go back and look, dovetail boxes in Jan 2013 was when I started.
I just went back and reviewed the picture frame video for a frame I’m making at this moment.
You and your team have done an incredible job and even though I haven’t made all your projects I know I can always go back and review the instructions for what ever project I am doing.
Echoing everybody else, Thank you for your work.

  15. Congratulations on your 5th year. In 2013 I was just starting with woodworking as a hobby, I found your workbench video on YouTube and decided to go the hand tool route. What a joy it has been.

  16. Was the wall clock the first of Masterclasses? OMG has it been 5 years? I remember seeing the series come out with a new episode every Wednesday. I didn’t know I was there at the start.
A couple of things at the start that really sank the “fish hook” in me was, not alone did Paul show how to sharpen and set a saw, he filed the teeth completely flat and changed the TPI, tips per inch. Then he made a first class workbench in his backyard under a tree where the ground was rolling hills like we have here in West Virginia, USA. The only power tool used in making the workbench was a battery powered drill. The magazines I was subscribing to at the time the articles were, more or less, making a pigs ear out of a silk purse. Paul was making a silk purse out of a pigs ear and didn’t need a bunch of safety equipment for his personal protection nor a shop big enough to make a u-turn with a car in. While others have trophy tools Paul was using formally rusty ebay tools. For the price of a good cabinet-makers table saw I could have a well equipped woodworking shop full of tools that won’t blind my eyes, destroy my lungs, damage my ears or cut my arms off.
On the Internet many videos are educational, many are entertaining but you have both of those qualities.
Thanks, and congratulations on your 5 years of wonderful educational and entertaining videos.

  17. Where I live it is a little after 10 AM and apparently a little after 2 PM where you are Paul.
What local your time are the Wednesday episodes released?
I’m retired and a lot of days I have access to the Internet anytime of the day I want.

  18. Such a nice video of you and your son. You and Liz did a wonderful job raising and schooling them. You two should be proud of them.

  19. Congratulations Paul, Joseph, and crew. I enjoyed watching you both reminisce about that first episode. I am so thankful for all that you do and all I have learned. Thank you so much for teaching us all that you have and I’m looking forward to many more years! Cheers!

  20. Congratulations Paul and team. What a wonderful video.
Thank you for all your help all this time. Thank you for helping me discover real woodworking.
    Kind Regards
    Tassos Aristidou

  21. That was very moving to watch. In this day and age, you don’t see very often a father and son working together and get along. Congratulations Paul on raising a good son. I hope one day I too will have the privilege of working with mine.

  22. Your work is truly great. It is a wonderful thing to pass along the wisdom you’ve acquired along the way. And to do it in such a loving and kind manner with family, well, it’s simply awesome! Thanks for all you and your family do to continue this great tradition!

  23. Thanks Paul and the rest of the team.
Your comment on the knife wall is dead on. This one technique has allowed me to continue woodworking without my detail vision. The knife wall provides a positive location for the chisel even if I can’t see it.

My brother Mike and I are newcomers, but hope to enjoy your teaching for many years to come.
    Thanks again,
    Paul

  24. Congratulations Paul,
I remember the first bench as I was looking for some ideas at the time.

    Thanks!

  25. Hey I think I missed this episode at one point . It’s wonderful to see you working together it’s most noble too. Actually I’m following you since the very beginning then . ( workbench in the garden series).
Five years ago , more now, I was making a harp. When I had finished it I saw “it miter been better”.
This is what brought me to you. I’m not so much realizing or copying your projects but as for the techniques I’m soaking them up as much as I can. Yes the knife wall is the most essential one and would be impossible without the right way of sharpening. I’m very grateful for the way you bring this knowledge back to life.
Sometimes I think to myself “come on you got it now” But nope I think I’ll hang on for more.

    you are nice people, indeed

    Kind Regards

    Caerlynn
